Marge Ellis was born and raised in South Dakota and Nebraska but she currently lives in Boston, MA. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University where she studied engineering and American History. She holds an advanced degree in American Studies from UMASS/Boston. After more than three decades of quiltmaking she traded fabric for glass/ceramics in order to tell the visual story of her life. Her quilts and mosaics hangs in homes in New York, Boston, Chicago, and now, Louisiana.

Her main subjects include the geography of great American cities, American product branding and her own family history. She is deeply embedded in recycling and ecology and as such utilizes mostly found, discarded materials in the creation of her artwork.
